Oldest child: Can we get a puppy? (as she’s looking on Craig’s List for puppies)
Me: As opposed to the 3 we have?
Oldest child: Look how cute, can we get it?
Me: (It was very cute, but I don’t let her see me enjoy the pic at all) When you have your own place you can get a puppy. And you can feed it and pay for it and it will be wonderful!
Oldest child to youngest child who just walked in: Look how cute this puppy is!
Youngest child: OMG how cute, can we get a puppy?
Me: (As I’m doing dishes so I’m real interested, NOT) Yes, when you get your own place and then you can get whatever you want.
Youngest child: But I’m only 12?
Me: Yes, so brave to want to go out on your own. (At this point, I’m not sure they’re even listening to me, but I talk anyways)! You can get a job and you can get a dog and you can feed it and pick up poop! So fun! And you can pay for it all.
Oldest child: Look at these kittens!
Youngest child: Can we get a cat?
Me: No.
Oldest child: Look at these hamsters.
Youngest child: Can we get a hamster?
Me: No.
Oldest child: Look at this turtle.
Youngest child says nothing.
Me: You aren’t going to ask me if you can get a turtle so I can say no?
Youngest child: Can we get a turtle?
Me: No.
Man I love Saturday mornings!
Love your blog – good for you starting out on your own and with mean girl as your guide, you’ll do great!
Lori
Thanks Lori. What does it say about us when we have Mean Girl as our guide? Haha!
Hey! I take no responsibility. And if we’re getting technical, Lori inpired ME when she was freshly pressed that one time. We emailed and everything. It was quite the bonding experience. I’m great at online bonding. Wait, are we still talking about me?
On a relevant note, the saturday morning conversation had me cracking up. I could picture it perfectly. I couldn’t help but notice they didn’t mentioned birds… Oh wait.
Oh wait…they already conned me into birds. Two of them to be exact…and actually if you count the two dead ones…then they’ve actually conned me into 4 birds. Man, I need help. Who in their right mind thought I could raise children?
